Honouring the Strength of South African Women – Then and Now

On 9 August each year, we pause to honour a powerful legacy: the courage and determination of more than 20,000 South African women who, in 1956, marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest the apartheid government’s pass laws. Their bold stand and the words “Wathint’ Abafazi, Wathint’ Imbokodo!” (“You strike a woman; you strike a rock!”) still echo today. These words remind us of the unshakable strength, resilience, and leadership of women in our country.

Women’s Day is not just a date on the calendar. It is a call to continue the work of those brave women who came before us. It is a reminder of how far we have come, and how far we still need to go to ensure that every woman can thrive – socially, economically, emotionally, and physically.

At Avon, supporting women is not just a campaign that runs once a year. It is something we commit to every single day.

From helping women build their own businesses through beauty and connection, to backing causes that matter, like the fight against gender-based violence and breast cancer, Avon is serious about walking alongside women through every stage of their journey.

As a proud Avon Team Leader, I have seen for myself how this brand changes lives. Whether it is through flexible earning opportunities, personal growth or simply finding a supportive community, Avon gives South African women the tools they need to stand tall, speak up and succeed on their own terms.

This Women’s Day, let us celebrate the rock-solid women around us, the mothers, daughters, grandmothers, friends, and colleagues, who carry so much and still show up with strength and grace.

💜 To every woman: You are powerful. You are worthy. You are unbreakable.
