In 2004, René Steyl took her first brave steps into the world of Avon. Having recently relocated to Cape Town, she was working at a coffee shop and feeling the financial pinch that often comes with a big move. Looking for a way to make ends meet, she was introduced to Avon, and what began as a side hustle quickly became so much more.
René describes herself as “a single lady with a passion for making [her] mark on the world”, living in beautiful Table View and driven to create something meaningful with Avon. Initially, she was captivated by the quality of the products and the warm, welcoming community. But as an introvert, the idea of talking to people, let alone selling to them, was terrifying. Would anyone buy from her? Would she find her footing in direct sales?
Fast-forward to today, and not only has René conquered those fears, she is thriving. The once-shy newcomer is now confident in her ability to engage customers and lead others. Many of her Avon clients have become close friends, a true testament to the relationships she’s built along the way.
